Established in Switzerland for many years, Mohamed Benjelloun has been an enthusiastic sportsman from a young age. Since his success, which came about in the nineties, he has supported numerous sports clubs, both in Switzerland and in his country of origin, Morocco.

Following the Madrid (Spain) train bombings on 11th March 2004, where some of his family live, Mohamed Benjelloun was determined to react against the intolerance and lack of understanding between western and eastern cultures, Muslim and Christian.

In next to no time, with the support of a few friends and local Geneva personalities, he organised a friendly football match in Geneva between one team composed of Maghrebi players and one of Spanish players. Both communities are strongly represented in Geneva, the international city of peace. It was to become known as the Peace Match, held on 2nd April 2004.

The match was acclaimed by Mr. Joseph Blatter, President of FIFA, in person, the official representatives of Spain and Morocco in Switzerland and the Geneva authorities. On 26th October 2004, Mohamed Benjelloun also lent his support to ‘The Geneva spiritual Appeal’, a call for peace and the rejection of violence, on the initiative of Muslim, Christian and Jewish religious representatives living in harmony in Geneva.
